Production and Release
The production rights for Vijay’s 65th film were acquired by Sun Pictures in early January 2020, with plans for AR Murugadoss to write and direct. However, complications arose when Murugadoss refused to reduce his salary, leading to his replacement by Nelson Dilipkumar. Principal photography began in April 2021 and ended in December, with filming taking place in Chennai, Delhi, and Georgia. The music was composed by Anirudh Ravichander, the cinematography was handled by Manoj Paramahamsa, the editing was by R. Nirmal, and the production design was supervised by D.R.K Kiran. Beast was released in theaters on April 13th, 2022, and received mixed reviews from critics. However, it quickly became a commercial success, grossing between ₹217-300 crore worldwide and joining the ranks of the highest-grossing Tamil movies of all time.
